Overview The Senior Staff Accountant, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, maintains and provides accurate financial information for Northern Arizona Healthcare. Responsibilities Financial Statement Preparation/Review* Prepares and distributes interim and annual financial statements for the corporation and its entities. * Compiles, prepares and posts monthly general journal entries and makes other adjustments to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements. * Reviews draft financial statements and trend reports of revenue and expense. * Assists Accounting Manager and Corporate Controller with unusual trends or problem areas and recommends corrective action in accordance with GAAP. * Assists the financial operations department in documenting and revising policies and procedures. * Maintains and provides accurate financial information. * Assists Accounting Manager and Controller in the reporting of financial operations. * Prepares monthly general journal entries, financial statements and accounts reconciliations. * Prepares and analyzes operating ledgers and financial reports. Communication & Support* Serves as a resource providing technical accounting expertise, information and assistance to department staff and management. * Serves as a department liaison with external auditing firm during annual financial audit and special audits as incurred. * Serves as a department liaison with external tax firms during the annual filing of corporate and partnership tax returns. * Coordinates meetings and work groups with key members and assists department Directors, Managers and staff in implementing corrective and preventative action plans. * Serves as a liaison with vendors in outsourced non-clinical internal audit projects. * Provides GAAP expertise. Tax/Audit Preparation* Prepares audit workpapers. * Prepares Form 990 tax information returns. * Assists Corporate Controller in determining priorities, planning workflow and procedures, and reviewing work of staff in the annual external audit/tax return process. * Performs non-clinical internal audits. * Develops non-clinical internal audit plan (risk assessment, audit planning, execution, issuance of the audit report and follow up). * Ensures audit reports includes recommendations to improve internal controls and/or departmental efficiency. * Conducts internal audits as directed. Account Reconciliations* Prepares reconciliations of corporate cash and investments accounts. * Prepares other account reconciliations and analyses to ensure accuracy of general ledger accounts. Operations* Performs various ad hoc projects/related duties. * Assists with special projects. Compliance/Safety* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner. * Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility. * If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates. * Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance- Required Certification and Licensure CPA- Preferred Experience Minimum 3 years accounting/finance experience, preferably in a healthcare setting- Required Healthcare and/or not-for-profit experience- Preferred Management experience- Preferred Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
