Special Information The Manager OR Director for Equipment Operations is responsible for developing, planning and organizing programs for maintaining purchasing athletic equipment for all University sport teams. The Manager OR Director of Equipment Operations also prepares and monitors athletic equipment budgets. The primary duties of this position involve purchasing athletic equipment, monitoring daily maintenance of equipment, and issuance of uniforms and equipment. This position requires travel to sporting events and maintaining a variable work schedule dependent on the sport season. This position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Fiscal Operations All coaches and athletics administrators have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, Big Sky Conference and NAU with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations as mandated by NCAA Bylaw 10.1. Satisfactory rules knowledge and rules compliance are conditions of employment. This position, in particular, will fully participate and cooperate in compliance related activities, procedures and evaluation. Job Description Responsible for ordering, storing, laundering, maintaining inventory and distribution of apparel and equipment for student athletes and coaches. Provide efficient and well-organized systems for issuing and collecting apparel and equipment for 15 sport programs and ensuring appropriate documentation, records and inventory are maintained according to industry standards. Hire, train, and supervise equipment room student staff, scheduling and staff training and development. Prepare and monitor annual equipment room budgets, purchasing, receiving and shipping, laundry services, storage and inventory, issuance, repair and maintenance of equipment apparel and machinery. Adhere to university policies concerning purchasing, budget management and inventory control measures. Research new and innovative equipment ideas by working closely with outside vendors. Assist in reporting of all equipment room budgeting. Oversee preparation of equipment, playing areas and locker rooms for games and practices; including uniform and equipment distribution and retrieval at practices and on game days. Serve as a consultant to coaches and administration prior to equipment purchases. Serve as the primary department liaison with Adidas. Serve as the department liaison with all equipment vendors. Ensure compliance with all NCAA and Big Sky regulations as it pertains to equipment and apparel. NAU is currently engaged in an Organizational Growth and Effectiveness Initiative, which focuses on positioning the University for future success of its operational practices. As a result, some aspects of this position may be subject to change, such as, but not limited to: duties, titles, reporting structure, etc. Minimum Qualifications Manager Bachelor's degree and three years' demonstrated experience in athletic equipment room operations. Director Master's degree and three years' demonstrated experience in athletic equipment room operations Preferred Qualifications Previous work within a Division I Intercollegiate Athletics program and experience working with various sport programs including football and basketball. Possess Athletic Equipment Managers Association certification. Experience managing budgets and proficiency in Microsoft applications. Knowledge of supplies, equipment and/or services ordering and inventory control and state procurement processes. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to multitask and complete assigned work in a rigorous and demanding environment. Ability to supervise a staff of graduate students, student workers, and volunteers. Ability to properly fit protective equipment Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Vast knowledge of athletic equipment room operations and records maintenance. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Strong organizational skills. Attention to detail. Ability to be a self-starter. Background Information This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school's policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year's Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing. The report may be viewed at nau.edu/clery or by visiting the NAUPD website . Salary Commensurate with experience. The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. FLSA Status This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked. Benefits This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of employment. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of employment.
