Typical Duties:(Illustrative Only) Provides consultative leadership, partnership and coordination of resources to foster collaboration across County departments, community partners, and stakeholders to achieve diversity and inclusion strategic goals, resulting in significant positive impacts on our diverse constituents and communities.Reports directly to the Deputy County Manager, works closely and partners with members of the Executive Leadership Team and departments in meeting the diversity and inclusion vision, goals and priorities of the BoardOversees short and long-term diversity and inclusion priorities, goals and objectives to assure significant positive impact on our constituents and communities, and in doing so by maximizing effectiveness of County resourcesAdministers, develops, implements and monitors programs that promote and sustain diversity, inclusion, equity and respect throughout Coconino CountyCreates countywide strategic plan for diversity and inclusionPerforms countywide cultural competency assessments, develops, implements, supports and assesses diversity and equity training and programming, while meeting the specific needs of each departmentParticipates in employee enrichment activities, including coordination of county diversity projects and initiativesReviews, interprets, and recommends county-wide programs and policiesActs as a resource for department diversity policy developmentAssists departments in completing and implementing their diversity action plansStays abreast of diversity and inclusion trends and best practices affecting County government to apply new techniques to keep the organization current, responsive and setting a national standard for county effectivenessFacilitates communication between partners to build trust, and motivate and engage teams while building meaningful and inclusive relationships to improve services and benefit citizensDemonstrates confidence, humility, integrity, accessibility, compassion, innovation, creativity, accountability and thoroughness while facilitating diversity and inclusion strategy and visionCollects and analyzes statistical dataTracks trends and developments in functional areasConducts studies, performs research, and prepares reportsParticipates in working groups, councils and committeesEnsures compliance with rules and regulationsProvides diversity, equity and inclusion training as well as Train the Trainer Opportunities to sustain diversity and inclusion initiativesCoordinates Monthly Heritage Lunch and Learns, diversity proclamations, and Diversity Day as well as chairs the Diversity Committee and acts as a liaison to the Coconino County Advisory CouncilsPartners with Human Resources and other departments in bringing resources to employeesManages special projectsMay supervise assigned staff Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: reaching; working with and around others; dealing with interruptions; vision acuity (far) for driving, (near) for reading, etc.; color vision; hearing and speech (ordinary conversation) for phones and communicating with staff, and the public. Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Business/Public Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Diversity and Equity and Inclusion, Intercultural Communications or related field and five years of experience assessing, implementing and sustaining culturally competent organizational practices, policies and strategies in collaboration with organizational stakeholders in a diverse working environment OR, any equivalent combination of education, training or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.The ideal candidate will be an innovative, strategic and results-oriented leader with a broad vision for the role of diversity in achieving organizational excellence. They will be skilled in establishing, improving and moving forward an organization-wide diversity initiative; working with established community partners, commissions and citizens groups; developing and establishing credibility and trust working with diverse populations; and working with culturally competent organizational practices, policies and strategies. The successful candidate will be adept at facilitating difficult discussions, shepherding change, creating and strengthening partnerships and aligning an array of efforts throughout the county. Preferred qualifications: Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Navajo speaking and writing skills. Experience with diversity issues in recruitment, retention, identity development, access, and equity. This position is exempt from overtime.This position is at-will.
