Experience (FYE) Program Manager reports directly to the FYE
Director in Student Affairs and broadly supports the departments
first-year student success initiatives. These include the extended
orientation seminars NAU 100: Transition to College (which serves
between 1100 -1500 new students each fall) and NAU 102: Transfer
Transitions to NAU as well as First-Year Intensive Transition
programming such as the Biology Intensive Orientation.Program
Management - 40%
- Manages the day-to-day operation of the NAU 100: Transition to
College program each fall semester which serves 1200-1600 students
for the entire fall term.
- Assists the FYE Director with instructor section assignments
and Schedule of Classes for NAU 100, NAU 102 & NAU 299
- Oversees the learning management system (e.g. BBlearn) for NAU
100, NAU 102 and NAU 299. This includes managing and
troubleshooting 50-70 individual class shells
- Designs processes to ensure fidelity to ABOR and Provost Office
academic policies for credit-bearing classes (e.g. submission of
midterm and final grades, administrative drop, and withdrawal
processes)
- Recruit, select, hire, and train 40-50 NAU 100 instructors
(Peer Instructors and Student Affairs professional staff)
- Teach the NAU 299: Peer Educator Training course each spring
for prospective NAU 100 peer instructors
- Identifies areas of weakness and/or gaps within the NAU 100 and
NAU 299 professional development programming that would provide a
high-quality experience to students and instructors
- Assists with the design, development, implementation and
management of Freshman Intensive Transition programs including the
current Biology Intensive Orientation program.
- Assists with the hiring of student workers (e.g. SI leaders &
peer mentors) for Freshman Intensive Transition programs including
Biology Intensive Orientation.
- Collaborates with various campus partners to identify
strategies for student retention and success.
- Assists with goal-setting and assessment of FYE programming
using surveys, working groups, and other methods of data collection
and analysis
- Process, enter, approve, and troubleshoot payroll for student
workers
- Provide and set standards of excellent customer service; give
information in response to inquiries in-person, via digital
communications, or by telephone
- Assists with the production of informational materials related
to FYE programs and services
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with Student Affairs,
Academic Affairs, and Enrollment Management (e.g. First Year
Seminar, Orientation, etc.)
- Prepare presentations and workshops for campus partners
- Participate in university-wide committees that support
first-year students (e.g. AOD council)
- Collaborates with faculty to promote Student Affairs
services
- Develop a positive service-oriented image of FYE through
contacts with students, parents, staff, and faculty
- Manage the FYE web presence using WordPressSupervision - 25%
- Supervises and leads the work of 25-40 Peer Instructors and
10-20 professional staff teaching 50-70 sections of the NAU 100:
Transition to College class each fall term
- Oversees NAU 100 instructor effectiveness through classroom
observations and individualized (1:1) support and instruction
- Leads weekly NAU 100 teaching teams and deploys instructional
procedures or methods such as individual training, group
instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstrations and role-play, to
solidify the comprehension of material
- Ensures individual instructor fidelity to academic policy,
processes, and deadlines in NAU 100 and NAU 102 including final
grade submissions, enrollment & petition requests, incompletes,
grade changes, etc.
- Develops and maintains communities of practice and professional
development opportunities for NAU 100 instructors
- Handles instructor-student escalations/conflicts across 50-70
class sections (1200-1600 students) and provides thoughtful and
well-considered resolutions through one-on-one meetings or
appropriate referralsInstructional & Curriculum Design - 20%
- Designs and develops curriculum for NAU 100, NAU 102, and NAU
299 courses in consultation with the FYE Director and faculty (e.g.
FYS faculty).
- Collaborates with faculty partners to approve NAU 100, NAU 102
& NAU 299 curriculum in accordance with ABOR, Undergraduate
Curriculum Committee, and College of Education academic
standards
- Works collaboratively to research instructional design,
learning theory, and learning practices in higher education
- Oversees the implementation and management of curricular
collaborations with other Student Affairs offices (e.g. Career
Development, Office of Inclusion, Academic Success Centers, ODOS,
etc.)
- Oversees the implementation and design of curriculum within the
learning management system
- Independently develops and delivers teaching aids
- Consults with offices across campus to revise curriculum and
provide accurate information to students
- Attends meetings or trainings to acquire institutional
information relevant to curriculum design/content particularly in
regard to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belongingStudent
Support - 10%
- Teaches one section of NAU 100 each fall semester
- Teaches additional sections of NAU 100 in the event of
instructor illness, absence, or resignation to ensure delivery of
content to all NAU 100 students
- Meets one-on-one with students in crisis who are referred by
Peer Instructors or Professional StaffOther - 5%
- Perform other duties as assignedWork Environment
- This position may occasionally table outdoors during summer
orientation events.Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a field appropriate to the area of
assignment.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience.
- 1-2 years of program management experience.
- Any combination of relevant education and experience may be
substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year
basis.Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment
(e.g. Counseling and Student Affairs, Education, or
Psychology).
- 2+ years teaching, counseling, mentoring and/or advising
first-year college students.
- 2+ years of program management experience in higher
education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of significant trends and issues
affecting historically underrepresented and marginalized student
communities.
- Experience collecting and analyzing data to inform programmatic
development.
- Experience managing peer leaders.
- Experience in marketing and promoting events.
- Evidence of effective verbal and written communication
skills.
- Experience working with university students from diverse
socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.Knowledge, Skills, &
