Job Description This position is responsible for all activities of the Underwriting Department at KNAU. The Underwriting Sales & Community Outreach Manager reports to KNAU's General Manager and is part of the station's leadership team. Responsible for Underwriting budget, which provides 30% of KNAU's operating budget. Meets or exceeds monthly sales goals Supervises full and part-time underwriting account representatives. Grows business and corporate support in a strategic manner by soliciting new underwriting clients, initiating sales calls and effectively closing new contracts. Maintain existing client base by renewing contracts, writing copy which is compliant with FCC requirements and working with business owners to evaluate advertising/marketing needs and trends. Travel throughout northern Arizona and statewide to make sales presentations and provide ongoing customer service to station Underwriters. Manage timely collection on accounts. Interpret and understand media research and qualitative data. Manage Underwriting inventory. Community Outreach Manager: Promote station image through effective and appropriate association with various business and non-profit organizations throughout northern Arizona Represent KNAU at local and region community events. Collaborate with community groups Recruit volunteers and donation for on-air Membership Drives and events. Use social media to inform and engage the community and KNAU listeners. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree and a minimum two years supervisory experience or equivalent. Minimum two years' experience budget management and forecasting. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in communication, advertising or sales Experience hiring, evaluating and motiving sales team within the last 2 years. Two years' experience in public broadcasting sales. Demonstrated knowledge of FCC regulations for public radio. Experience collaborating with community groups. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Demonstrated budgetary/fiscal management experience to include budget forecasting Ability to work on deadline, meet or exceed budgetary goals and work as a team leader Familiarity with northern Arizona business climate Strong communication skills (oral & written) and effective interpersonal communication skills Demonstrated supervisory experience Background Information Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school's policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year's Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing. Salary Commensurate with experience. **The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. FLSA Status This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked. Benefits This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of employment. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of employment.
