Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med Surg/Progressive
Care Unit (stepdown) position requiring AZ or compact RN license
and recent telemetry experience. Responsibilities - Work in a Med
Surg/Progressive Care Unit (MS1) with both telemetry and stepdown
beds in an acute care hospital setting - Unit has 18 beds,
including 6 PCU-capable beds, and all rooms are private - Patient
population includes telemetry, stepdown, and med surg patients,
with common diagnoses of AMI, stroke/TIA, pneumonia, renal
(dialysis), afib RVR, SIRS, and diabetes - Nurse to patient ratio
is 1:4 for telemetry and 1:3 for PCU/stepdown - CNAs split the
floor, each taking up to 9 patients, and support staff include tele
techs, charge nurse, HUCs, and PCTs - Use of Allscripts - Sunrise
EMR and Phillips monitors for telemetry - RNs are required to
validate monitor tech interpretations and document at least every 4
hours - 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required;
weekend coverage includes Friday & Saturday nights - Floating may
be required to all med surg units - RNs care for telemetry and
stepdown patients, including those on high flow O2 or home CPAP as
needed - Expected to administer and monitor medications such as
Cardizem, amiodarone, bumex, Lasix, integrillin, octreotide, and
protonix - Orientation is 2-3 days with a preceptor - Unit may
house COVID patients when needed, with modified air handling as
appropriate - 24/7 in-house support from hospitalists, pharmacy,
and respiratory therapists - No in-house IV team; RNs manage IVs as
needed Requirements - Active AZ or compact RN license required - At
least 1 year recent experience in telemetry and acute care med
surg; 2 years preferred - Certifications required: ACLS (AHA), BLS
(AHA), NIHSS - Experience with Phillips telemetry monitors
preferred - Ability to work night shifts and every other weekend
