Special Information The Coordinator for Residential Student Conduct and Development application process requires a letter of interest, current resume, and the contact information for three professional references (including most recent/current supervisor) uploaded with the completed online NAU Application for Employment. Housing and Residence Life is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and inclusion efforts of the department. The Coordinator for Residential Student Conduct and Development is a full-time, live-off, Service Professional role. The position is exempt; 40 hours per week with the potential for occasional weekend and evening commitments, work schedules are influenced by student, staff, and community needs. Work outside of traditional hours may include attendance at special events/functions and participation in staff trainings and development sessions. The Coordinator role has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per Arizona Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history verification, degree verification (in some cases), and fingerprinting. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying a new employee's right to work in the United States. Job Description The Coordinator for Residential Student Conduct and Development assists with the coordination of the student conduct program within Housing and Residence Life. This includes processing and adjudicating student conduct cases for residential students. The Coordinator plays a critical supporting role in encouraging student development, addressing community issues, intervening in negative behaviors, and collaborating to ensure community standards are upheld for a residential campus of over 8,000 students. The Coordinator will work with the Assistant Director for Residential Student Conduct and Development to support the development of Housing and Residence Life hearing officers and monitor conduct program operations. This includes assisting with the training and development of staff to serve as University hearing officers and educating staff on policies and procedures related to the Standards of Residence and Student Code of Conduct. This role also provides oversight of the Community Advisory Board, as student board that hears large group, lower-level cases related to community disruption. The Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director for Residential Student Conduct and Development and serves on a team with a full-time administrative support person, several student employees, and the hall staffing Assistant Directors. SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Case Processing and Adjudication Oversee case management for the Housing and Residence Life student conduct program: conduct daily reviews of incident reports, adjudicates or assigns cases for adjudication, and ensures that all cases are resolved within the designated time frame. Determine appropriate charges and alleged policy violations for all cases proceeding through Housing and Residence Life student conduct. Investigate and adjudicate violations of the Standards of Residence and Student Code of Conduct; assign educational sanctions; make appropriate referrals as necessary. Provide support and consultation to Housing and Residence Life hearing officers as appropriate. Implement and track sanctions. Communicate and consult on sensitive and confidential matters regarding complex cases and hearings. Maintain oversight of the Advocate student conduct management software system. Assessment and Program Evaluation Work with the Assistant Director to develop and implement an assessment plan; generate recommendations for improvements to current practice, procedures, and policies. Annually review and provide suggestions for revisions to the Standards of Residence for Housing and Residence Life. Identify trends and patterns relevant to student behavior and develop trainings to address. Monitor Housing and Residence Life hearing officer case progress reports. Training, Facilitation, and Advising Assist with the creation and facilitation of student conduct trainings for professional and paraprofessional staff, including foundational training on policy, procedures, and best practice. Assist with the planning and facilitation of continuing education sessions and supplemental trainings. Recruit, select, train, advise, and develop 10-15 student volunteers as hearing officers for the Housing and Residence Life Community Advisory Board. Identify cases appropriate for the Community Advisory Board to hear; serve as an advisor to the Board during hearings; track completion of educational sanctions assigned by the Board. Committee Work and Professional Involvement Maintain effective collaborations with NAU PD, Counseling Services, Equity and Access, Disability Resources, and the Office of Student Life. Serve on University Committees such as the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Task Force, Mental Health Task Force, and/or others as related to the role and departmental need. Serve as a member of the NAU Student Behavorial Intervention Team, attend weekly SBIT meetings. Participate in continuing education regarding recent legislation and case law related to Title IX, Clery Act, Campus SaVE Act, Violence Against Women Act, FERPA, etc.; be trained in University resources and procedures. Participate in weekly Housing and Residence Life Hall Leadership Meetings. Maintain membership in the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA); participate in professional development opportunities to gain knowledge of current trends and best practice. Coordinate and assist with other programs and responsibilities as designated. NAU is currently engaged in an Organizational Growth and Effectiveness Initiative, which focuses on positioning the University for future success of its operational practices. As a result, some aspects of this position may be subject to change, such as, but not limited to: duties, titles, reporting structure, etc. Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, AND Two years of professional experience in Housing and Residence Life, Student Life, or related student affairs position, for which student conduct was a core job responsibility. Knowledge of due process in administrative decision-making. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge and experience with relevant legislation/laws including but not limited to Title IX, Clery Act, Campus SaVE Act, Violence Against Women Act, and FERPA. Proficient in student development, identity development, and student learning theories. Understanding of trauma informed care, victim advocacy, and privacy as related to management of highly sensitive or confidential cases. Previous experience, knowledge, and implementation of threat assessment tools in a residential campus setting. Previous experience working with or advising student conduct boards within Housing and Residence Life. Demonstrated experience working with parents and families. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Exceptional attention to detail and proven organizational skills. Strong teambuilding, networking, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated oral, written, and presentation skills. Ability to function effectively in stressful work environments and remain focused under pressure. Flexibility managing complex roles and processes within a dynamic work environment. Background Information This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school's policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year's Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing. Salary Commensurate with experience. The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. FLSA Status This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
