Job Description Evaluation Associate The Center for Science Teaching and Learning at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff is seeking to fill an Evaluation Associate position that will work directly with the Center's Assistant Director in designing and conducting research and/or evaluations of grant-funded STEM education projects and programs. Duties may vary based on expertise and the nature of current projects. Planning and Collaborating Cooperates with CSTL staff to seek out, write, and submit grant proposals in response to opportunities that contribute to the mission of the CSTL. Collaborates with the Assistant Director and CSTL staff, NAU faculty and other partners in the development of logic models, the design of evaluation and/or research components of projects, the identification of metrics and instruments, and the determination of budget requirements for effective evaluation and research. Partners with the Assistant Director and other CSTL staff in the identification and use of research methodologies, instruments, and assessments as needed. Implementation and Project Management Using a range of appropriate methods, assists in conducting formative and summative program evaluations related to the effectiveness of STEM education projects and/or expanding the STEM education knowledge base through research. Works collaboratively with and makes real-time recommendations to project teams regarding project activities and decisions. Provides technical assistance to build capacity related to evaluation or research to CSTL staff, NAU faculty, and other partners. Works with the Assistant Director to ensure that program evaluations and research projects are implemented in accordance with priorities and limitations of ethics, time, funds, and staff support. Assists with supervision of graduate students, student workers, and office staff on issues related to data collection, entry, analysis, and other components of research and evaluation plans. Collaborates on the submission of IRB applications for the protection of human subjects as appropriate. Implements procedures for the protection of human subjects as appropriate. Provides leadership in data management for CSTL projects. Reporting and Disseminating Writes reports and disseminates evaluation and research findings for a variety of audiences. Shares findings with a variety of audiences in poster, presentation, and manuscript formats as appropriate. Collects, analyzes, and disseminates data related to CSTL projects at local, state, and national levels. Serves as a member of the CSTL's Evaluation/Research Team Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings and strategic planning sessions. Establishes personal professional goals and time allocations that complement and/or enhance the work of the CSTL. Contributes to the CSTL research agenda and to the overall quality of projects and programs within the CSTL. Contributes to organizational learning of the CSTL. Stays current with the research and knowledge base that contributes to exemplary evaluation practices Participates in personal professional learning and professional service activities. Provides service to university, local, state, and national groups in the area of program evaluation and education research. Evaluation Coordinator The Center for Science Teaching and Learning at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff is seeking to fill an Evaluation Coordinator position for the purpose of designing and implementing evaluation and/or research components of grant-funded STEM education projects and programs. This position will support CSTL staff, NAU faculty and other partners in writing research and evaluation sections of grant proposals, will design and implement evaluation plans, lead data collection and analysis efforts, and disseminate evaluation and research findings: Planning and Collaboration Seeks and alerts CSTL staff to grant opportunities that contribute to the mission of the CSTL. Collaborates with CSTL staff, NAU faculty and other partners in the development of logic models, the design of evaluation and/or research components of projects, the identification of metrics and instruments, and the determination of budget requirements for effective evaluation and research. Collaborates with CSTL staff in the identification and use of research methodologies, instruments, and assessments as needed. Collaborates on the writing and submission of proposals for grants that are within the scope and mission of the CSTL. Gains sponsored project support to cover at least 50% of personal annual salary. Provides limited technical assistance and capacity building related to evaluation to CSTL staff, NAU faculty, and other partners. Ensures that program evaluations are implemented in accordance with priorities and limitations of ethics, time, funds, and staff support. Assists with supervision of graduate students, student workers, and office staff on issues related to data collection, entry, analysis, and other components of research plans. Coordinates and submits IRB applications for the protection of human subjects as appropriate. Implements procedures for the protection of human subjects as appropriate. Provides leadership in data management for CSTL grant-funded projects. Contributes to the field of evaluation research as appropriate Provides service to university, local, state, and national groups in the area of program evaluation. Supports organizational capacity building of the CSTL through contributing to organizational learning and improvement. NAU is currently engaged in an Organizational Growth and Effectiveness Initiative, which focuses on positioning the University for future success of its operational practices. As a result, some aspects of this position may be subject to change, such as, but not limited to: duties, titles, reporting structure, etc. Minimum Qualifications Evaluation Associate Master's degree in education, science, mathematics, evaluation, or related social science fields. Work experience with assessment or evaluation, or equivalent, in a STEM education field. Project management experience. Evaluation Coordinator Master's degree in evaluation, education, or related social science fields. Three years' experience in program evaluation or education research. Demonstrated experience with writing successful evaluation or research grant proposals. Preferred Qualifications Evaluation Associate STEM education experience in K-20 classrooms or informal education environments. One year of experience as a program evaluator or education researcher in a STEM education field. Evaluation Coordinator Doctorate in evaluation, STEM education, or related social science fields. STEM education experience in K-20 classrooms or informal education environments. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Evaluation Associate Demonstrated experience with data collection, analysis, and management.Demonstrated experience with Excel and general word processing software and research support software such as NVivo, SPSS, etc.Demonstrated experience with report writing and presentation of conclusions and recommendations to a variety of audiences.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Ability to multi-task and attend to details in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing deadlines.Ability to analyze problems and make well-reasoned, sound decisions.Excellent communication skills.Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.Excellent organizational skills. Background Information Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. Salary The budgeted salary range is: $62,315 - $66,435 - Evaluation Associate $68,289 - $72,409 - Evaluation Coordinator Commensurate with experience. The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. FLSA Status This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
