Job Description High Achieving Coordinator The University Admissions office is a dynamic environment which requires dedicated professionals to engage, excite, and enroll qualified students to the University to help meet enrollment goals. With a large recruitment staff that manages territories across 16 states, the High Achieving Coordinator is needed to develop strong communication and relationships with high school guidance personnel, potential students and families, and assist with the review and awarding of the Lumberjack Scholarship and other merit based awards. The Coordinator is intended to serve as the lead for the Recruitment Team for the review of Lumberjack Scholarship and other scholarship qualifications, and support University Admissions in the management of the High Achieving recruitment and orientation areas of the office. This position is responsible for the following: Cultivates and manages High School Counselor communication plans pertaining to merit scholarship qualifications, ABOR course requirements and GPA requirements.Develops, implements and maintains key University Admissions relationships with high school personnel to help facilitate the recruitment of highly qualified (3.5 GPA) students to the University. This includes travel to high schools to meet directly with high school personnel and potential honors students to address their admission and scholarship related questions. Will include collaboration with the EMSA Communications Team, Scholarships and Financial Aid team, Honors College, University Admissions Events team, and activities as identified by the Director of Admissions and the Director of University Admissions Processing.Works directly with Honors College staff to recruit and retain Honors students, which includes traveling to specific Honors events. Researches, develops and facilitates job related training sessions for new Admissions Officer staff, and to help educate and support their work as it pertains to communicating with external and internal stakeholders about merit based scholarship opportunities and requirements.Collaborates with functional and subject area experts within and out of University Admissions in the development of relationships and training materials and policies and procedures.Ensures training documents and policies and procedures are kept current and easily accessible by staff.Serves as a liaison to Scholarship and Financial Aid and collects important information and updates regarding course approval with the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) as provided by the Director of Admissions Processing Assists with the leadership of the Recruitment Team and supports the Associate Directors and Director of Recruitment and Orientation in the management of the Recruitment Team and their work with prospective students and their guests.Lead recruitment efforts for Flinn Scholars, National Merit Scholars, National Hispanic Scholars and other High Achieving students.Counsel, guide, and advise prospective students and families in the completion of complex admission and financial aid forms, admission requirements, transfer guidelines, cost of attendance, financial aid programs, and various other student and enrollment related services, programs and opportunities. Communicates potential High School Curriculum problems related to ABOR requirements to UAO Leadership and makes recommendations for resolution to High School Counselors as directed by the Director of Processing and/or Director Recruitment and Orientation.Works in coordination with other key individuals within the Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation office and University to meet enrollment and scholarship goals for the University. Serves as a liaison between the NAU Honors College and the NAU Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation to coordinate consistent, effective recruitment of high-achieving students across the nation.Provides honors and merit scholarship information and presentations to campus visitors at on-campus and off-campus events. Assists with the execution of on-campus visit programs as needed, including but not limited to Discover NAU, Explore Honors Day, Multicultural Recruitment Programs, and transfer student programming.Assists with the execution of Orientation programming to enroll new students to the University.Reviews transcripts received; researches various academic systems to determine admissibility, transferability and equivalencies of credits for the purpose of awarding scholarships.Updates records to include deleting, changing or adding terprets university policies and recommends changes to policies and/or procedures.Assists with necessary research to verify residency status, admission status, or status of transfer credit.Reviews additional academic data for the purpose of awarding of scholarships.Works with entry level Admissions Officers to help them understand scholarship criteria for their recruitment territory or territories. Uses reports through Business Objects, Enterprise Reporting, PeopleSoft, and Salesforce to analyze scholarship awarding.Evaluates program effectiveness, assesses outcomes, and develops improved programming to achieve goals, complete cost analyses for programs/events.Other duties as assigned. NAU is currently engaged in an Organizational Growth and Effectiveness Initiative, which focuses on positioning the University for future success of its operational practices. As a result, some aspects of this position may be subject to change, such as, but not limited to: duties, titles, reporting structure, etc. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required and two years of related professional experience, OR Master's degree in education, business, or other related field is preferred and one year of related professional experience, OR Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of admission and enrollment management practices in higher education.The ability to work effectively with prospective students, continuing students, parents, alumni, other university administrators and faculty, high school administrators, faculty and counselors.A broad understanding of regional and national issues pertaining to higher education, as well as an appreciation for the value that higher education provides for individuals and society.Knowledge of issues pertaining to areas of assignment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Access, Excel and Power Point.Knowledge of SalesForce CRM, PeopleSoft Student Information System, Business Objects and Enterprise Reporting tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, Keynote, Vizio and Prezi.Knowledge of the principles and practices pertaining to University Admissions, as well as, Enrollment Management. Knowledge of organizational development and management best practices. Demonstrated skill set in the coordination of projects and programs. Skill in problem solving and decision-making.Demonstrated skill to prioritize individual work tasks, but also to assist supervisees in prioritizing work tasks.Demonstrated skill in both verbal and written communication.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and productive working relationships with on-campus and off-campus partners.Skill in program development and execution.Strong organizational and training/human development skills.Ability to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Background Information This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school's policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year's Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing. Salary The budgeted salary amount is $45,000. Commensurate with experience. The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. FLSA Status This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked. Benefits This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of employment. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of employment.
