Under the general direction of the Paint Supervisor for Facility Services. This painter position will provide protective coatings to all the internal and external structures on campus for aesthetically pleasing and safety zones for the Campus community. For internal projects paints, stains to surface of walls, ceiling, equipment, and furniture this position will work closely with the carpentry, electrical, plumbing, GMM and custodial departments for planning and scheduling. The external projects include working with Landscaping/Grounds department for installation of signage, striping the athletic play areas and irregular surfaces such as parking lots, curbs, and streets. Help with coordinating building maintenance programs and specialty projects. Working conditions include but are not limited to, restricted movement, dirty environments, extreme temperature, intense noise and moving heavy objects. This position exists to aid and assist Facility Services' mission to the University by providing superior customer services to the campus community, exercising fiscal responsibility, reporting on leading edge technology and practice sustainable maintenance and operations. Duties and Responsibilities: (10%) - ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS, CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TRAINING. Communicate with your supervisor, customer and building managers. Make sure that you have complete understanding of the request for painting and ensure that each customer is informed and agrees with the schedule. Follow proper procedures for procurement. Turn in all receipts and requisition forms. Ensure that material is charged to correct work orders. Estimate the quantity of materials needed for a job assigned, estimates should be accurate to assigned project to minimize waste.Attend training for asbestos abatement, lead abatement, and respirator/fit safety. Mold and remediation training. Required OSHA training and multiple other necessary trainings. Review all assigned work orders and daily log sheets for accuracy and completion for that day. Payroll Timesheets and electronic record of absence (eROA) should be filled out correctly and turned in on time. (70%) - PREPARATION, CLEAN, AND PAINT. Apply paints, stains, surface preparatory materials and undercoating materials to a variety of surfaces, as appropriate according to Material Safety Data Sheets within established hazardous materials guidelines.Determines appropriate color for new or replacement applications through consultation with the customer.Maintain existing paint surfaces through matching and tinting of appropriate paint products.Prepares and implements line-striping layouts for streets, parking lots, and athletic fields according to ADOT and the various Athletic requirements. Apply protective and decorative coats of paint, varnish, lacquer and/or other related materials to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment and other structures.Washes, scrapes, sands, torches and/or smoothies interior and exterior surfaces prior to painting, varnishing, lacquering or applying other related materials. (15%) - CLEANING TOOLS, MAINTENANCE, OPERATE EQUIPMENT AND SAFETY Cleans equipment, paint mixing area and work area.Tools will be kept clean and in good condition to ensure that productivity is high. Vehicles will be kept clean and in good running condition. Operates compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment and other small power equipment.Installs, repairs and maintains drywall, wall texturing and ceiling acoustic texturing.Operate heavy lift equipment including scissors and boom swing stage to heights of 80 feet.Erects various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders and planks to reach surfaces work area.Identifies, safely handles and appropriately disposes of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials and other hazardous materials.Creates and applies graphics and signage layouts according to ADOT, Safety and ADA requirements to meet state and federal regulations. (5%) - SEASONAL Spring and summer paint crosswalk, ped-way and field striping, Snow removal, shoveling operating snow removal equipment Minimum Qualifications 1.5 years of painting experience Knowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and application techniques common to the painting trade.Knowledge and skill in hazardous materials handling, application and disposal.Skill in the preparation and application of paints, stains and surface preparation materials to a wide variety of surfaces.Ability to effectively communicate.Basic personal computer skillsThe ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds Background Information Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school's policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year's Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing. The report may be viewed at nau.edu/clery or by visiting the NAUPD website . A printed copy of the report is available upon request by contacting the NAU Police Department, Records Department at (928)523-8884 or by visiting the department at Building 98A on the NAU Mountain Campus. Salary $12.00 - $15.00 per hour. FLSA Status This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.
