Job Description:
Description:
TGen, the Translational Genomics Research Institute, is an
affiliate of City of Hope. We are an Arizona-based, nonprofit
medical research institute dedicated to conducting groundbreaking
research with life-changing results. We work to unravel the genetic
components of common and complex diseases, including cancer,
neurological disorders, infectious disease, and rare childhood
disorders. The TGen Integrated Microbiomics Center (TIMC) is an
efficient, cutting-edge, multi-omic microbiome research and service
center that empowers clinicians and researchers to integrate
microbiome analysis into mostly cancer-based research studies. The
Center uses state-of-the-art sequencing technologies and
bioinformatics tools, and delivers custom, interactive microbiome
summaries that are directly interpretable, and which can optionally
be used with collaborator-preferred tools for further downstream
analysis. Additionally, the Center is partnered with the TGen North
Clinical Laboratory, allowing for expansion into a CLIA diagnostic
setting. Our lab is milestone-driven and integrates rigorous
quality control that is critical for microbiome analysis. There is
a plenty of opportunity to learn and train in our center. Every
team member has an opportunity to be involved in experimental
design and interpretation of results. Link to the lab page:

SummaryUnder direct supervision, the Research Associate I (RA-I)
performs a variety of experimental procedures, largely on patient
samples, to support the microbiome analysis services. This position
will also assist in general laboratory activities, including
maintenance of instruments, stocking of supplies, as well as
interacting with our LIMs computer system for sample and document
tracking. The RA-I will be able to perform routine micro and
molecular biology procedures including, but not limited to sample
handling, DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, PCR, qPCR, and
sequencing. Duties and Responsibilities-- Performs a variety of
routine laboratory tasks and procedures.-- Independently execute
molecular biology protocols, specifically various NGS-based library
preparation protocols, using established molecular biology
techniques.-- Keeps accurate and detailed project records of
experiments and results.-- Maintains lab equipment and related
records.-- Transports, processes and logs samples.-- Develop
standard operating procedures (SOPs) for routine protocols in the
lab.-- Sample preparation and processing using established and new
protocols.-- Observes and complies with safety standards and
procedures.-- Work closely other research staff to ensure that
tasks are complete and deliverables are met in a timely
manner..

Preferred Qualifications-- One (1) year of experience in a
biological sciences research laboratory. -- Experience with basic
laboratory equipment (i.e. thermal cyclers, centrifuges) --
Understanding of laboratory techniques including PCR, sequencing,
real-time PCR, tissue culture and bioinformatics. -- Strong

Valley, Sunset Crater, Meteor Crater, and Arizona Snowbowl.
Flagstaff also has rich a rich history in scientific discovery and
application from Lowell Observatory (where Pluto was discovered),
the rich environmental resource setting, and a growing
biotechnology sector that includes TGen and Gore and Associates (a
global leader in medical device technology), to the numerous
community and research partnerships with Northern Arizona
University, a high research university. Notably, Flagstaff has been
named America's First STEM Community.PM21PI177036727
